Barbara de Bastier
Based in Asni, close to the Eve Branson Foundation (EBF) craft centres and Kasbah Tamadot, Barbara supervises the craft centres and co-ordinates activities between Kasbah Tamadot, the Foundation, and the London team. Barbara originates from America and went on to study at the Sorbonne in France where she later married.
A trained English teacher, Barbara started trekking in the Atlas Mountains in 2007 and began to teach English to staff at Kasbah Tamadot whilst helping in the boutique. Here she met Eve, and in 2011 joined EBF full time. A valued member of the Asni community, Barbara has developed new initiatives including the nursery garden and bread kitchen and has secured investment into a small saffron business start-up and most recently, a pilot scheme to provide scholarships for local students.
“My best memory is meeting Eve for the first time, getting our feet wet crossing the river after a hike to discover a new village and building up a relationship of mutual trust with the young women and teachers at our craft centres. I enjoy suggesting new designs to our artisans to help increase their income. Being part of EBF is inspiring, challenging, fun, hard work and rewarding!”
