Health & Community Wellbeing
We’re very lucky to work with some great partners to help improve the health and wellbeing of the local communities. Here are some examples of the projects we’ve been able to support thanks to working with partner organisations:
The Dental Mavericks
The Dental Mavericks have been working with the Eve Branson Foundation (EBF) since 2014, with the aim of educating children about the importance of good oral hygiene. Each year, EBF partners with the Dental Mavericks by opening a temporary walk-in clinic in the market town of Asni. The temporary clinic is open to young people in local villages and run by a team of voluntary dentists. Here, they receive an individual screening, followed by treatments including fluoride, extractions and general dental care. Thanks to a number of dentistry expeditions to the Atlas Mountains more than 2,000 children have benefitted from free dental care. Learn more about the Dental Mavericks here.
The Big Clean
In recent years, a build-up of debris from infrequent litter collection has become an increasing hazard in Asni. When a group of Virgin Atlantic adventurers visited the region to raise funds for local projects, they not only planted 30 young fruit saplings in the Eve Branson Foundation garden nursery, but at the same time, planted the seeds for the launch of a new litter management scheme by donating the funds to build rubbish collection points throughout the area.
Around 200 volunteer litter-pickers from the local villages and primary school came together to make Asni ‘rubbish-free’, and in partnership with Kasbah Tamadot, we are now funding litter collection transportation several times each week. We have also provided new litter bins, painted by local school children.
Community Wellbeing
Alongside our partners we have constructed three water wells to ensure better access to clean water in the villages of Imskar, Imi Oughlad and Tanshart and work closely with the local birthing centre to ensure the provision of warm clothing for newborn babies in the harsh winter months.
